Pierre Imans at the Heart of the Renovation of the Balenciaga Museum

The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, an international reference dedicated to one of the most influential couturiers of the 20th century, has recently undergone a major museographic renovation, carried out with rigor and a keen sense of detail.

This project, led by the museum’s team under the direction of Mr. Igor Uria, Director of Collections, aimed to rethink the presentation of the works and renew the visitor experience, in order to pay tribute to Balenciaga’s legacy in all its modernity.

As part of this effort, Pierre Imans was selected as a partner to design custom busts and silhouettes, contributing to one of the most sensitive aspects of the scenography: giving presence, coherence, and stature to the garments on display.

A Masterful Blend of Tradition and Innovation

More than 20 exclusive busts were created especially for this project, in close collaboration with the museum’s scientific and technical teams.

Each silhouette, designed with meticulous attention to proportions, posture, and volume, was tailored to meet the precise needs of the exhibition while honouring the spirit of Balenciaga’s creations.

True to its DNA, the Pierre Imans atelier combined centuries-old artisanal craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technologies. The production of stylised wigs using 3D printing stands as the most emblematic example: an innovation that brought together precision, modernity, and aesthetic consistency within the global scenography.

A Challenge Met with Passion

The diversity of sizes, silhouettes, and finishing details represented a genuine technical and artistic challenge. Each piece was conceived as a discreet showcase, designed to enhance the strength and beauty of Balenciaga’s garments.

For the teams at Pierre Imans, taking part in this project was more than just a prestigious collaboration: it is a source of immense pride to contribute to the preservation and celebration of a heritage that embodies the very essence of fashion excellence.

Commitment to Serving Creation

Through this project, Pierre Imans reaffirms its unique role: providing cultural institutions, museums, and fashion schools with the technical and aesthetic tools that allow textile creations to shine.

This commitment—rooted in tradition and propelled by innovation—can be found in every project we undertake, whether for museums, couture houses, or educational institutions.
